Some Days Are Full Of Poop

Thank God these days are rare. Last night, after I put my little tubaloo to bed, I remember silently congratulating myself on what a thoughtful mother I was. Aware that he had a mild cold, I gave him some Tylenol before bed.  I heard him caughing in his sleep, so I made him a cup of mint tea and honey in his sippy cup.  I laid it quietly next to his head in his crib, in case he woke up with a sore dry throat. This morning, I heard him playing by himself in his crib.  I also felt my own raging sore throat for the first time, so I decided to stay in bed for a while, as long as…

A Better Way For Kids to Watch TV

With TV and all its cousins (computers, smart phones, iPads) in practically every room of every house, parents are struggling to find the right amount of technology exposure for their kids. It seems like studies come out all the time about the dangers of watching too much TV, and yet parents are constantly admitting on mommy support forums, "I hate to admit it, but sometimes I use the TV when I need a break." Recently, The Great Tubaloo has been waaaay into hats. Dr. Dad's beanie, Dr. Dad's cap, tupperwear.....all kinds of hats. Yes, ALL kinds of hats (that is a placemat): He's also been into having his picture taken recently, which is nice for me. So, what did we do? We went shopping!  And came home and took pictures. The tubaloo was mind-numbingly indecisive about which hats to bring home.  But we eventually ended up with two.  A beanie and a cap, just like Dad. Here's our photoshoot with the beanie.  It was cold today, so the beanie went with us outside: Isn't it funny how in sometimes he looks like a boy, and in other times he looks like a baby? And here's the cap, which I like a lot. I told…

My Pearls for the First Month of Mommyhood Featured

The one thing nobody ever tells a pregnant woman is this: childbirth isn't the hard part.  The hard part is that first month or so of your child's life.  I'm not sure why it's kept a secret.  Maybe because nobody wants to ruin the mood.  Or maybe because she wouldn't believe it anyway.  But the downside is that many mothers are caught completely off-guard when the wave of suffering hits them. If you haven't had kids, or aren't about to have kids, this article will be completely uninteresting for you.  But if you are, I hope these tips help you in those times when you are seriously wondering how the human race survived this long. When I say help you, I mean on a scale of 1 - 10, these…

Dr. Dad = My darling husband.    The Great Tubaloo, or the GT = what we like to call our son (rhymes with "tube of glue".) Note, it's a title, not a name.  as in "The Great and Almighty Tubaloo who has traveled from from over the mountain to impart his wisdom!"
